Tree team spruces sycamore for local acrobats

A team of arborists sprang into action when a South Tyneside-based aerial artist needed a leafy venue for a public display.

Operatives from national green services provider Glendale prepared a tree in the grounds of South Tyneside College to enable a performer from Creative Seed to suspend from its branches.

The large mature sycamore had deadwood removed following a safety inspection, before aerial equipment, decorations and lanterns were installed using a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP).

A performer took to the tree to deliver a dazzling aerial display for the public as part of Creative Seed’s annual Dare to Dream showcase, which also included dance routines, stilt-walkers and illuminations.

The work was carried out as part of Glendale’s five-year contract to deliver grass maintenance and arboricultural services for South Tyneside Council, which involves the company maintaining 5.6million square metres of grass and over one million trees across the borough.

Glendale has provided arboriculture services to the council for the past 15 years.
