New manager appointed to head up West Midland’s Estates contract

Ben Hawley joined Glendale in December 2014 as West Midland’s Estates contract manager.

His main responsibility is to grow the business in the Midland’s region working with Glendale’s business development team and local contract manager’s in order to source new business opportunities, bid for new work and set up and manage new contracts.

Ben came to Glendale from Pinnacle PSG where he held the position of contract manager for the North region responsible for a number of contracts with major Housing Associations.  During his time with Pinnacle he also set up and managed a large contract with Midland Heart in Birmingham.

Ben started out in the landscape industry when he left university at the age of 21.  His first job was as a foreman for Waterers PLC.  He led a mobile maintenance team responsible for looking after Sainsbury’s and BP sites across the Midlands and North of England.

During his extensive career Ben also worked with Grace Landscapes on the A50 design and build project, he comments: “I joined Grace Landscapes during the 2nd phase of the project planting a three-mile stretch of the A50 running through Stoke-on-Trent.  Once the landscaping element was complete I was promoted to contract supervisor and was responsible for an after-care maintenance contract for three-years.  Once this was complete I moved to their Warrington depot where I oversaw the activities of two landscaping teams and five grounds maintenance teams.”

After his time with Grace Landscapes Ben went to work as a contract manager for Continental Landscapes managing contracts from their Congleton depot.  This was followed by a period with VCS where he was responsible for a local authority contract in Staffordshire Moorlands.

“I was looking for a new challenge and I am enjoying it so far without a doubt,” Ben comments on his move to Glendale.  “I have found everyone to be more than helpful and I am settling in well.  I am hoping to win lots of profitable new work for Glendale, getting it set up and running smoothly over the next few years.”

Ben has a HND in Land Use which he studied at Harpury College in association with Cheltenham and Gloucester University.  He isn’t currently working on any qualifications but would like to complete a NEBOSH certificate as soon as possible.
