Today we are joined by Lee Dean to talk about his role with Glendale and how he got started in the arboriculture industry. Lee is a service delivery manager for Glendale’s contract with Western Power Distribution in the Midlands.
What are your main responsibilities in your current role with Glendale?
My main responsibility is the delivery of the 438 sequential cut contract for the WPD Hereford and Ludlow area. I am responsible for 36 directly employed members of staff and 15 contract employees.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy all aspects. I like being outside, I like the customer interface that we have and being part of a very motivated team with good staff morale delivering contract compliance.
How many years have you been working in the arboriculture industry and how did you get started?
I started in the industry in 2001, 14 years ago. In 2001 I worked for a company delivering arboricultural works on behalf of Network Rail on a variety of projects including signal citing on the West Coast mainline. I started out as a groundsman and progressed to team leader and project leader in 2003. In 2007 I joined Fountains as a climber on their utility arboricultural contract and two years later I became a surveyor with them. In 2009 I was promoted to team manager until December 2013 when I took up my current position. I tuped over to Glendale in 2015.
A unique or unusual fact about yourself?
Before I got into the rail industry I worked as a chef for 13 years and I was trained in Michelin star restaurants.
