National green services provider Glendale has begun work on a three-year contract to provide grounds maintenance services in Lutterworth.
A team of specialists from Glendale will carry out mowing, strimming, weed killing, shrub bed maintenance and hedge cutting around the town on behalf of Lutterworth Town Council.
The council has recently taken on the management of a new cemetery as well as responsibility for highway grass verge cutting, which previously fell to Leicestershire County Council.
Churchyards, embankments, and recreation grounds will also benefit from an increase in service delivery, while Glendale is undertaking some additional works supporting the council with grave excavations.
As a gesture of goodwill to celebrate the start of the contract, Glendale restored Lutterworth’s iconic white horse mural on Regent Court Embankment, which was created in 2012 to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Hannah Surtees, Town Clerk at Lutterworth Town Council, said: “The council recently commissioned a tender process to procure its grounds maintenance service, which resulted in the appointment of Glendale to deliver services until 2018.
“We are looking forward to working with Glendale in order to provide the community with increased service provision while at the same time offering value for money.”
Barry Bolton, contract manager at Glendale, said: “Community interest is always at the heart of the work we do, and we’re committed to working hard to make sure local people can enjoy green spaces around the town and be proud of where they live.”
