A green space scheme that supports residents in Edinburgh has reached the end of its 2014 season, cutting enough grass in length to travel from the city to the Lodhi Gardens in New Dehli – a total of 6,105 miles.
The Garden Aid scheme is an essential service to the residents of Edinburgh and is carried out by national green services provider Glendale.
It supports over 2,800 eligible residents with gardening assistance, providing grass cutting and hedge trimming services for the elderly and people with disabilities.
The season runs between March and November, during which one operative alone cuts enough grass to mow the pitches of all 42 professional football clubs in Scotland twice.
Gerry O’Donnell, Glendale Scotland general manager said: “Garden Aid offers help to those who need it most. Customer satisfaction and feedback is an important factor in our contract with the council, which is why we strive to provide opportunities and assistance for local people at the heart of the community.
“We are looking forward to continuing our growth in Scotland in 2015 when we will be celebrating 25 years of service delivery.”
Glendale has been providing services in the city since 2013 as part of its four-year contract with the City of Edinburgh Council. In addition to routine grounds maintenance, Glendale oversees a range of work in the area including planting, tree surgery, landscaping and clearance work.
The company places emphasis on the importance of community involvement, leading local voluntary schemes while providing work experience and employment opportunities for young people, including an apprenticeship programme.
