Glendale partner Whitefriars Housing to restore church grounds in Coventry

National green service provider Glendale has joined forces with a housing organisation to breathe life into a disused area of land within the grounds of a Coventry church.

Glendale has worked alongside a team from Whitefriars Housing on the community project, a non-profit social housing organisation which manages more than 18,000 affordable homes in the city.

An area of overgrown land located within the grounds of St Chad’s Church of England was cleared, strimmed and mowed, and new planters were installed by Glendale staff.

Glendale, which is celebrating 25 years of service delivery, donated soil and mulch to make the land usable again.

The restored land will now be used as a plot for children’s groups run by the church to grow their own fruit and vegetables.

Luke Dove, contract manager at Glendale said: “It’s great to have been involved in a project which will bring so many benefits to not only the church but the wider community while bringing people together.

“Community projects are at the heart of much of the work Glendale does, and being able to instil a sense of pride into people about the places they live and work is a key priority.”

Brian Tidman, head of estate services at Whitefriars said: “We are pleased that Glendale shares our vision for improving communities and has involved us in this great initiative which will introduce children to the pleasures of growing their own fruit and veg. Hopefully, it will encourage the youngsters to make healthy food choices now and in the future.”

Glendale will be marking its 25th anniversary with a series of events and community engagement projects throughout the course of the year.
