Glendale helps reinstate Torquay seafront

Green space management company, Glendale, has completed a landscape reinstatement project on the iconic Torquay seafront.

The work was undertaken on behalf of South West Water’s Delivery Alliance H50 who recently completed a flood alleviation project in Abbey Park, Torquay.

A team of two from Glendale, Ben Farlam and Tomas Gergal, laid 4,000m2 of turf returning the park to its usual high standard.

A mile further up the road four staff undertook further reinstatement works in a private garden. Seven 12m high semi-mature Poplars were planted to act as a screen. The Poplars had to be craned into position due to their size and the limited access on site.

Further soft landscaping works including tree and shrub planting, a small water feature and close board fencing were also completed revitalising the garden.

Mike Dennys, senior estimator for Glendale, said: “This project is an excellent example of inter-departmental co-operation and the positive benefits that this can produce. The contract was originally awarded to the Glendale team responsible for the grounds maintenance in Torquay, but they very kindly passed it over to the landscaping team here in Exeter. We, in turn, will be passing the 12-month maintenance schedule back to the grounds team.

“Ben and Thomas’s attitude, output and quality of work has been outstanding. Turfing is punishing work and I am personally thrilled by the way in which they have taken on this task which they have done, day in, day out, for the last two weeks.

“The way they have handled enquiries from members of the general public has also been a credit to Glendale and we have received a number of calls of praise from members of the public who were pleased with the quality of our work and the attitude of our staff.”
