Glendale help keep the power on over Christmas

Throughout the Christmas period, Glendale’s dedicated utility arboriculture teams in the South West worked around the clock to help Western Power Distribution keep the power on.

The teams were called out on the 26th, 27th, 29th and 30th December and the 1st January to undertake storm fault work across Devon and Cornwall.

On Boxing Day, Wayne Gostling, Andrew Worth and Lawrence Jones attended a large fallen Ash tree.  The tree had brought down powerlines and service cables serving the popular holiday destination of Padstow.

It was vital the team cleared the tree as quickly and safely as possible so that WPD’s linesmen could gain access to the site in order to get the power restored.

On New Year’s Day, Nigel Gay, Tom Stephens and Terry Vokes attended a nighttime fault at 8:00 pm.  The team were required to clear a hazardous tree that had breached the power lines and was threatening a homeowner’s garage.

Despite very challenging weather conditions of torrential rain and high winds, the removal was completed safely in the early hours of the morning allowing WPD technicians access to restore the power supply.

Finally, throughout New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day the Redruth West team of Antony Jose, Charlie Jose and Mark Halliday attended a fallen Leylandii that had taken down power lines in Carbis Bay, St Ives.

This is a very high profile location and highly populated making it even more important that the clearance work was undertaken efficiently and safely so that power could be restored to holiday parks and homes as quickly as possible.

Julian Montague, general manager of utility arboriculture for Glendale, comments: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Wayne Gostling, Andrew Worth, Lawrence Jones, Nigel Gay, Tom Stephens, Terry Vokes, Matthew Willetts, Antony Jose, Mark Halliday, Charlie Jose, Tom Voogd, Alex Nankivell and Damien Martin-Irvine for their hard work and dedication.

“I think these lads are a credit to the region and the company and all deserve a mention for what, to them, is just another day at the office, but makes such a difference to those affected by the recent storms.”
