A team from Glendale ensured the Beach Lawns in Weston-super-Mare were in tip-top condition in preparation for a five-day family festival hosted by CBeebies.
CBeebies Big Day Out, part of the BBC’s Big Dish Up campaign, transformed the lawns on the 29 July – 2 August. The event promoted healthy eating and having fun in the kitchen with the aim of making healthy food more exciting for young children.
The festival brought with it an array of children’s TV stars and a variety of activities for families to get involved in. Anna Schauker and Philip Densford, two apprentices from Glendale’s contract with North Somerset Council, hosted a “Grow your own Herbs” activity at the festival. By noon on the first day, the pair had helped visitors plant over 1000 herbs!
Christopher Hazzard, contract supervisor at Glendale’s contract with North Somerset Council, commented: “With the help of Merediths Nurseries, we sourced 25 bags of compost, 600g of parsley seeds and 1000 mixed herb plugs for the “Grow your own Herbs” activity. We also provided over 5800 paper cups to be used as pots for the herbs.”
Glendale’s local cleansing team were on hand during and after the event to empty the litter bins and carry out a thorough litter pick.
