Glendale’s Coventry based team help clear land to create a Forest School at Charter Primary School as part of the company’s 25th-anniversary celebrations. Joanna Selby, customer involvement officer for Whitefriars Community Housing Group, shares the story:
“As part of their social value commitment, Glendale is working with our customers to identify issues that the community themselves have raised, and supporting our customers in developing ideas for local solutions.
“So far the team have helped out in areas across the city of Coventry including Willenhall, Wood End and Spon End. This time we went to them with a mammoth challenge: to help Charter Primary School as they begin to create a Forest School.
“As many of the children at Charter live in one of our homes this was a great way for Whitefriars to contribute to the local community, for Glendale to meet their social value and for Charter to get a kick start on their project. Warwick University is also lending their support by fundraising for the project.
“Two members of Glendale’s team, armed with heavy duty tools, tackled the tangled terrain last Thursday, battling brambles and weeds to clear a five-metre area and start the ball rolling. Another added bonus was that the dynamic duo also found the school’s missing goal posts!
“Warwick University is going to continue the work and we’ll continue to support Charter Primary School who has also offered to host a hub for Whitefriars as we ‘All Change’.
“Thanks go to Glendale’s two intrepid grounds maintenance operatives and two helpful managers, Luke and Ian, for making it all possible.
“I have also been asked to pass on thanks from the head teacher at the school, the caretaker and Charlotte from Warwick University. They commented that the two operatives did a cracking job and worked hard and steadily throughout the day which has made all the difference to the project.
“Thank you Glendale for accommodating this into your busy schedule and thank you to the hardworking operatives, you really made a big difference to the project.”
